Dr. Carissa Chu Carissa Chu, MD received her undergraduate training at University of California, San Diego, where she earned a degree with Honors in Human Biology.  After graduating, she earned her medical degree and completed her Urology residency at University of California, San Francisco.  She then went onto to complete her fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Dr. Chu's clinical interests include all urologic cancers including prostate, bladder, kidney, testis, and urethral/penile cancers with experience in both open and minimally invasive approaches.

Her research is currently focused on bladder cancer including mechanisms of resistance to the antibody-drug conjugate enfortumab vedotin, the molecular heterogeneity of variant histologic subtypes in bladder cancer, and biomarkers of BCG response in high-risk non-muscle invasive disease.

“The best care is multidisciplinary  - with the patient at the center and an eye towards the leading edge of research. I am grateful to work at UCSF where we can provide this level of care to every patient who walks through our doors.”
